PROFESSOR S. O. FOLAGBADE

Professor

Professor S. O. Folagbade is a Professor of Building Structures and the current Head of Department of Building at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Building from University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), M.Sc. in Construction Technology from University of Lagos, M.Sc. in Structural Engineering from University of Glasgow and Ph.D in Civil Engineering from University of Dundee.

Professor Folagbade joined the services of Obafemi Awolowo University in 1990. He teaches structural analysis and structural design in concrete, steel, timber and masonry. His research centres on reducing the cost and embodied carbon-dioxide content of concrete, and reducing the carbon-dioxide threshold of the atmosphere through the investigation of the effect of partial replacement of Portland cement with supplementary cementitious materials (byproducts of industrial and agricultural wastes) on the permeation resistance, carbonation and radiation shielding capability of concrete. He has served as Internal and External Examiners at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has also worked as Visiting/Adjunct Lecturer in other Universities in Nigeria.

Professionally, Professor Folagbade is a Member of the Nigeria Institute of Building, American Concrete Institute and a Registered Builder with Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria. He has been involved in various projects and has served on various committees at the departmental, faculty and university levels. He is currently the Chairman, Project Advisory Sub-Committee at Obafemi Awolowo University.
